About the Calculation Methods:

U.S. Navy Method

Uses circumference measurements at specific body points. Reasonably accurate for most people and easy to perform at home.

Skinfold Method

Uses calipers to measure skinfold thickness at specific body sites. More accurate but requires proper equipment and technique.

BMI Method

Estimates body fat based on BMI, age, and gender. Less accurate but requires minimal measurements.

Body Fat Percentage Categories:

Men:

  • 2-5%: Essential Fat
  • 6-13%: Athletic
  • 14-17%: Fitness
  • 18-24%: Average
  • 25%+: Obese

Women:

  • 10-13%: Essential Fat
  • 14-20%: Athletic
  • 21-24%: Fitness
  • 25-31%: Average
  • 32%+: Obese
